January 15, 2021 - Many sawmills commented on the scarcity of logs, with some forced to saw at less than the two, or in some cases three, shifts they would prefer. And, competition for those scarce logs is pushing prices up accordingly, sometimes more quickly than lumber prices. As such, some sawmills are selling rather than sawing their logs. Green lumber is in especially short supply, and one large secondary manufacturer said the small and mid-sized sawmills it depends on can no longer satisfy its needs.
